Top Ten Tuesday (I’ll Cry if I Want to)

It’s my Birthday! I’m starting to feel old when I see my own age in writing now (36). Will I have a crisis when I turn 40? Only time will tell. Apparently I’m getting birthday presents this year too, more about that later.

For some reason, this song, which (I realize) doesn’t even mention birthdays, makes me think of birthdays. Idk, the only parties that exist to me are birthday parties, or something?

Sooo. Top Ten Tuesday time! A pretty straightforward topic this week:

September 19Top Ten Books On My Fall TBR List

  1. Bad Feminist
  2. The Second Sex
  3. The Mists of Avalon
  4. Akata Witch
  5. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks
  6. Born a Crime
  7. Scrappy Little Nobody
  8. Death by Black Hole
  9. Yes Please
  10. You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost)

I allowed two male authors to sneak in there, but only because the rest is pretty feminist, and they write about “real” things (growing up in apartheid, and science).

  1. Happy birthday to you!

I’m trying to tell mum and sis that I’m too friggin old for presents, dying to see if this is the year they finally listen. ALSO. Think I’m having that crisis, right about now. Spent pretty much entire weekend researching skincare routine in your 30s, ordered a starter set from Pixi in a panic, is not sitting good on my skin right now, measures need to be taken. Has to be old age? Other than that I LOVE BEING OLD.

And let me know what you think about Yes please, I sorta didn’t get far at all. Kinda hated it to be honest. But maybe I was a bit harsh?

We shall see! I’ll report back for sure 🙂 Am also considering the ones by Lena Dunham (even though I haven’t seen Girls) and Amy Schumer – have you tried either of those?

I got shit to do, this working thing is getting in the way.

Not Like Other Girls? Or there is there another one? I’ve read Not Like Other Girls, I really liked it. But then I also like Girls, and that movie she did, Tiny Furniture, that is a favorite of mine. Amy Schumer is in my TBR, so not yet!

  2. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks was a wonderful story. Be prepared to get very angry at the way she was treated by both her husband and the medical establishment, though. I wanted to jump back through history and save her from all of that suffering.

The Mists of Avalon was pure fun. That’s another good choice there.

Here is our Top Ten Tuesday.
